Q.How do I assemble my beehive frames?

A.Beehive frames can be assembled using Gimp pins/frame nails, or a hand or powered stapler or brad nailer, please see our Guide to frame assembly for further details.  Our beginners kits are supplied with Gimp pins for frame assembly.  However, as many existing beekeepers have a stock of Gimp pins/frame nails or use a stapler or nailer our complete hives are supplied without them.  Gimp pins can be purchsed separately if necessary. Back to the top.

Q.Which hive tool should I buy?

A.Ultimately which hive tool suits you and your style of beekeeping is a personal choice, with a larger number of hives it may be useful to have both tools. However, if you are starting beekeeping the J tool is easier to work with and allows easier lifting of frames. Further details on the advantages of each type of tool can be found here Hive Tools. Q.Where can I obtain Hive Record Cards?

A.Hive record cards are easy to produce and will vary depending on your circumstances, there is no right or wrong design for hive records (only not to keep any) and every beekeeper has their own opinion about what should be recorded. In our experience detailed written records are rarely referred to but a simple list of ticks and numbers is makes it easy to look back through check on the progress of your colony throughout the year. Our Hive Record Card is free to download and print, and you are welcome to use it if you wish. Back to the top.
